Practicing in a "Loop" PDF Print E-mail

Music is inherently repetitious by nature, and this common trait allows the listener to identify themes, melodies, and patterns and "learn" the music that he or she is hearing, thereby enhancing the musical experience. This same characteristic allows the performer to learn the music quickly and easily if used to full advantage. When encountering a measure or phrase that is repeated, play it in a "loop", i.e., play an immediate repeat of the section - 5, 10, or 20 times without stopping. This way of practicing gives immediate results, and allows you to become very fluent with the phrase in a short period of time. You will find many, many opportunities to apply this valuable practice technique. This is one of the "short-cuts" to learning that helps you to learn and integrate the music much quicker.
