Improve your sight-reading in 3 weeks PDF Print E-mail

Wouldn't you like learning a brand new piece of music to be much easier and quicker, and less frustrating?

HERE'S HOW:  Work on your sight-reading! This doesn't have to be hard work.  This can be FUN!  Just set aside five minutes each day and play through one line of music (not too difficult) that you have never played before.  Follow all the procedures for sight-reading that we work on in your lessons:

Study the music for 30 seconds before playing.  Study key signature, time signature, clef signs, figure out the counting, study fingering for hand positions and moves, look for patterns and changes, and then play it through very slowly, counting out loud all the time.

Every day, as you follow these procedures and practice your sight-reading, you will improve quickly.  Then when you go to sight-read through a new piece, you will be able to learn it much faster, because you can get through the sight-reading part of it much sooner and more easily.  You will notice a marked improvement in only 3 weeks!

Loose Wrists Sink Ships

Loose wrists are one of the most misunderstood attributes associated to playing the piano. On the contrary, when performing you need to be in complete control of your forearms, which of course include your wrists. I was taught this by Keuorilisky, who fingered for Horowitz on occasion, and…Read more...
