Tension-Free Guitar Playing PDF Print E-mail

Ever wonder how a musician can sit or stand and play an instrument for hours on end? Well, it's mostly due to relaxation. Yes, while you are playing those difficult chords or passages you must learn to stay totally loose and relaxed, almost limp. And I am not just talking about your hands and fingers, either. You must be aware of your entire body, from your neck and shoulders down your arms and down your back. Sit in front of a mirror and watch yourself. Be sure your shoulders stay level and you sit up straight. Stay loose.

So, next time you sit down to play your guitar, first take notice of your posture and your arm and hand positions, and be sure you are relaxed. Then, as you play, keep that thought in mind. Spend a couple weeks practicing daily on your relaxation at the guitar. It will eventually become second nature. Then, those hours of playing will become much easier and certainly more fun!
